What about a redesigned starboard rudder? Make a control arm extending from the bottom of the rudder, then your push rod could remain straight. _________________ The gene pool could use a little chlorine. |

Micro Airboat anyone? , as soon I get the final design ready, I will be making 20 micro airboats (model only non functional) to give it free to the first 20 buyers. It takes less than 5 minutes to put together.
It measures only 6.5" long, it's just a downsized version of the big one.

Guys I'm still alive, I haven't tested the new design yet because I want to make HUGE changes, it will have rounded bottom like an old design I did long time ago, but I have to recreate the CAD files because the airboat is no longer with me, I was trying to make it a simple kit to install for begginers but who doesn't want speed? to be able to have speed and control I need the rounded bottom. and a few changes that I will throw from an old design.
I'm moving my little "shop" from my spare room to my 3 car garage, that way I have more space to play with and work faster, I'm setting up a testing tank also to check the balance of the airboat instead of filling the bathtub evertime and making a mess for my wife
As soon I get the old design into CAD files I will add a few changes and start making the prototypes for:
26cc Gasser Airboat
Nitro Airboat
Brushless Airboat
Everything starts today |

FYI round surfaces are slower..... sharp edges release water tention while rounded tend to hold. _________________

I suggest using the balance point instead of how it sits in the water to determine where the balance is. Its a lot more accurate. Here is how to determine the balance point.
Balance Point = The point at which a hull balances on a round rod that is sat on a flat surface parallel with the transom, running from one side of the boat to the other. _________________ We are saved by Grace....but kept by obedience. |

I'm still in the process of moving from my spare room to my garage to keep working on this, but here is a pic of what the new design might look.
My old design had a rounded front and it was flat at the bottom, and it had this shape, I'm trying to incorporate both designs into one, easy building and good "waterdynamics"

New pictures of the modified prototype.
The bottom will be rounded on the front (not 2 pieces) and the sides on the top will be rounded to, I'm still looking for the right material to make this work, right now I'm using 1/8" MDF for testing wich is to heavy and thick for the airboat frame, I need something thinner and less heavier, the only thing I will leave 1/8" is the motormount and rudder assembly.
Today I'm going material shopping to finish this one and start my gasser.
The green line is the new trim area.

| Could you please tell me what is that black seal around the electronics compartment. Is it keeping the water out? |

That's a thin black foam that I bought on JOANNS CRAFTS is on the crayola kids area, it comes in a package with other colors. But if the lexan is not hold down tight it will leak. _________________ Graphic Designer

The airboat is very light wich is good and bad, at high speeds on the ground it takes off, I have my throttle set to open only 75% at full speed. _________________ Graphic Designer

Here is another video.
I'm using a Spektrum DX3S and I have trhe throttle setup only to 75%.
For recording I'm using a keychain camera attached to my DX3S that's why sometimes you can't see ther airboat on the screen, it's hard to know what are you recording.
Next testing will be in the water, it's to cold outside right now to go to the lake.

Yeah it runs very smooth on the water and no flipping so far, if I do a hard corner it kicks like you see on the video, but on the video I was controlling throttle and steering with only one hand, forgot my tripod at home, but with 2 hands is nice to slide and slide, I wish this was behind my house
Tomorrow I'm going to buy a nitro engine to finish the nitro version of this size, and hopefully finish the gas version too this week. _________________ Graphic Designer

Did some changes on the motor mount area on both versions and dropped a .10 glow engine in there, hopefully is not much power for this light weight airboat.

Sorry for the late reply, I have been very busy lately.
I'm working on a little change on the motor mount area and gas tank location, I will post a new picture when I get it done. _________________ Graphic Designer
