well i have this absoutly mad idea
if we set up a standard race coarse like say 100' oval track and then get a starting sequence.
so when the count down begins from 3,2,1 go the boat crosses the start line then we could have like time trials and compare them.
if we made a time trial and then eddited the vids so that they played side by side then we chould be able to get a good international race!!!
get it?
so the race would go down like this...
film boat leaving the shore and completing a warm up lap.
after the warm up lap the start countdown begins of lets say 20, 19, 18......3, ,2 ,1 GO! and at that point the timer starts as does the race (can be shown on video by using the video clock)
the racing boat will need to complete a set number of laps depending on their engine size and speed (handicap system)
when the race ends the timer is stopped
and then the race boat will be brought into shore and the camera switched off.
we then can edit the video so it plays both vids side by side and it will feel like a race

I like it . It would be a great way to let everyone know how their boats compare to others'. The course length and boat specs would have to be on the honor system though... _________________ "Judge not, that ye be not judged..." |

Interesting idea.
I think for it to work, the camera point of view would need to be the same for both vids as well. _________________ Russell |

i think that would be a better thig becuse it is probs not that hard to make a airboat go 50mph maby bore but go round bends or handle a track ? _________________ I got out the wrong side of bed, I know cause i smashed my face on the wall |

Good idea shaun
Just like the top ten shoot out with the V8 supercars, but with airboats. this could be done. But every boat would have to be from the same class, eg (mono hull , .45 engine)
I like your line of thinking.good shaun _________________ IF YOU AIN'T FLIPPING YOU AIN'T PUSHING HARD!!! |

i was thinking on rather than having engine/hull classes because there are so many.
you could do what they do in sailing and add a "yardstick" to you're boat.
a yard stick is the handicap system that tells if you won on corrected time.
so if you have an ultra fast boat with a low handicap versing a slower boat with an AWSOME handicap the slow one can still win.
the handicaps wil need to be derived on the time taken for that particular boat to complete a lap of the track.
so for exampel...
popsicle completes lap in 30 secs average
rubbish completes track in 60 secs average
therefore popsicle will have to do twice as many laps as rubbish.
understand?
this way anyone can race anyone!!!

I don't know. It sounds an awful lot like bracket racing to me . I like races that judge how well a boat handles and how fast it goes, period. We could have bracket races, to judge consistency, but there should also be races where everyone in their weight class is held to the same standard. Just my opinion. Feel free to throw rotten vegitables if you like . _________________ "Judge not, that ye be not judged..." |

but like sailing your handicap will stay the same unless you make a radical change to your boat.
